Desiree is in her early forties. She has been suffering from vaginal pain four about 3 1/2 years. Although Desiree has a history of interstitial cystitis (IC), she hasn't had any symptoms of IC for years. However, after having a series of infections--including yeast infections followed by taking multiple courses of antibiotics, she developed vaginal pain including a severe burning sensation. To try to eliminate the yeast infections more naturally and perhaps fix the damage done by antibiotics, she eliminated sugars from her diet for two months. She found no relief.
In the near future, Desiree is considering trying a long course of fluconazole and a skin scraping to determine if the yeast has gone. However, she has recently been consulting with an ayurveda practitioner to try an alternative treatment first. This practitioner theorizes that the yeast is not the primary problem but rather the bacteria in the gut. This practitioner believes that, if you fix the gut, the yeast will follow and normalize. This practitioner therefore does not believe that eliminating sugar from the diet is necessary nor eating fermented, raw or vegan food only is the answer. Instead, she promotes the ayurvedic diet along with taking prebiotics and probiotics that include live cultures (e.g., Natren). Desiree is also considering using Plexus products.
